August 29 

Re-Entry: 

The Re-Entry Support Centre at Commemoration Park continues to operate daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Representatives from the Municipality of Jasper, Alberta Health Services, 211, Red Cross, and Telus (Wi-Fi only) are available. Team Rubicon has moved to the Legion to continue supporting residents.

If you are a Jasper resident in Calgary and Edmonton looking for transportation back to Jasper, Brewster’s Transportation is generously offering a one-way service for evacuees on August 31 and September 1, with priority given to Pursuit employees and remaining seats available to other Jasperites free of charge. If you are an evacuee looking to return to Jasper, please register here

At this time, housing will only be available for essential workers as we continue to address the community's urgent needs, with the first round of housing expected by the long weekend. Business: 

The Post Office is open with reduced hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and tomorrow. Starting Tuesday, September 3, the post office will resume regular operating hours from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Community Futures West Yellowhead is seeking input from Jasper businesses on their short- and long-term needs. Please complete the survey here. They are also offering a flexible loan program for Jasper businesses. 

Businesses are working hard to reopen and support residents. Check out the ongoing list here. If your business is open but not listed, contact us at liaisonofficer@jasper-alberta.ca, and we will add you.

Utilities & Services:

  • Potable water has been restored to areas that were being worked on for the last 24-30 hours. 
  • Waste Management: The waste transfer station is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for residential waste disposal. Commercial waste disposal is available at the West Yellowhead Regional Landfill

August 28

Re-Entry:

The Re-Entry Support Centre at Commemoration Park is adjusting its hours to 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to lower visitor volume; however, the centre continues to offer essential resources to residents. Representatives from the Municipality of Jasper, Alberta Health Services, the Red Cross, 211, Grand Yellowhead Public School District, and Service Canada remain available. Tomorrow will be the final day for Telus, Public Health Inspectors, and Intact Insurance in person. Team Rubicon is moving to the Legion to continue to support residents. 

Alberta Health Services is providing on-site mental health support at the centre and Seton Hospital. Online resources are available here

As noted earlier, the Edmonton and Calgary Reception Centres will close on September 3. We understand that this news adds to the uncertainty for many Jasperites, and you may still need support after this date. For more guidance on next steps, please click here

August 27 

Re-Entry: 
  • The Re-Entry Support Centre at Commemoration Park is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. You’ll find friendly faces from the Grand Yellowhead Public School District, Team Rubicon, Alberta Health Services, Service Canada, Telus, and Intact Insurance. Plus, a Public Health inspector will be on-site tomorrow and Thursday for any health-related concerns.

August 26

Re-Entry:
  • The Re-Entry Support Centre at Commemoration Park remains open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with friendly folks ready to assist residents with questions. Starting tomorrow until Thursday, representatives from the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division will be available at the centre to address any questions you may have about the return to school. Service Canada and Alberta Supports will also be on site tomorrow and Thursday.

Reopen:
  • Crews have worked tirelessly to restore services and reopen the spaces we all cherish. We’re excited to share that Lion’s Park, Firemen’s Park, and Centennial Park are open. Plus, our furry friends will be happy to know that the dog park is open, too!
  • And now, for the news many of you have been eagerly awaiting - the Post Office will be open for reduced hours at the retail counter on Thursday, August 29, and Friday, August 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Starting Tuesday, September 3, regular hours will resume, with the post office open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Starting Wednesday, August 27 at 9 a.m., water service will be temporarily interrupted in some areas for 24-30 hours due to essential disinfection work. A municipal representative will visit each impacted household to leave a notice tomorrow. 
  • Appliances: Contaminated appliance pickup is still available until August 29. Please schedule your pick-up here.




August 25

The Municipality of Jasper recognizes the importance of staying informed during these challenging times. We will continue to provide daily updates with the essential information residents need. 

We are hearing positive feedback from Jasperites about the daily updates, but there is always room for improvement. If you are looking for additional information that is not available or know someone who is not sure where to get information, please contact informationofficer@jasper-alberta.ca or send us a private message. Municipal staff are actively monitoring these channels.

Re-Entry: 
  • The Re-Entry Support Centre at Commemoration Park continues to be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Representatives at the centre are there to help Jasperites and continue to see over 200 people per day.

We know that housing is a significant concern for many in our community during this challenging time. An official housing application is open for Jasperites needing housing, with a priority for essential workers. We encourage you to apply here and share with your friends and family. We know you may have questions, and we have put together a list of FAQs to help guide you through the process. 

Business:

  • Electricity & Gas: ATCO has restored electricity to all undamaged residential properties, and crews continue restoring impacted areas. If you still need to restore gas, call 310-5678 or click here.

August 24


Re-Entry:
  • The Re-Entry Support Centre at Commemoration Park is open daily until August 29, 9am - 6pm. Some services have scaled back, but many are still here to help Jasperites!
  • The Grande Prairie Reception Centre closes today. Jasperites in the area can visit the Edmonton Centre until September 3. For more information, please visit here.
  • Seeing smoke is normal as you return to Jasper. Only report smoke if it’s outside the wildfire area.

Recovery:
  • Housing: An official housing application is now available for Jasper residents who still need housing. This is the next step after the initial survey to understand the housing needs of individual residents and households. Please apply here and check out the FAQs
  • Alberta Health Services: Outpatient services, acute care, and community programs are back up and running in Jasper. Please visit albertahealthservices.ca/news/Page18495.aspx and albertahealthservices.ca/news/Page18500.aspx to learn more.
  • Highway 93N: The Icefields Parkway opened yesterday for motorists only. People travelling through must stay in their vehicle until further hazard assessments are complete.
  • Pyramid Bench Trails: Connecting with nature is core to Jasperites. As of 7 am today, a portion of trails on the pyramid bench have been reopened. Please refer to Jasper National Park for an updated map of open trails. These areas continue to be open to Jasper residents only. 

Business Support:
  • Community Futures West Yellowhead will be at the Re-Entry Support Centre on August 27 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to support local businesses.
