Together, as one community, we acknowledge with deepest gratitude a debt we can never repay. With these words and art we honour the memory, the service and the sacrifice of Morgan Robert Kitchen, and extend our most solemn condolences to his family whose loss is supreme. May their consummate display of strength, grace and resolve in the face of such overwhelming personal tragedy serve as inspiration to us all as we face the challenges which lay ahead, and may our offering serve to help sustain and comfort them as they face the challenges which lay ahead.

Richard Ireland, Mayor
Municipality of Jasper

Morgan Kitchen was a brave and dedicated young man who tragically lost his life while in service of protecting others from the wildfires in Jasper. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family and those who knew and loved him. In the face of this tragic loss, and as the work in fighting this fire continues, let us recommit ourselves to the safety and well-being of one another.

Words to Loved Ones Of
Morgan (Mack) Kitchen

“Hero”

Your son, your brother, your kin, your friend
You loved him full; that love won’t end

And he loved you; his love shone through
In the very work he chose to do

A life of service at his young age
Confirms the love you helped engage

He bravely fought to save our town
Through fire and flame he held his ground

He did not yield; did not relent
He lived his love ‘til life was spent

And now his light, a bright North Star
Helps guide us home where’er we are

5000 souls who share your pain,
Unite as one to praise his name

Our love extends through time and space
To wrap you in our hearts’ embrace

Your son, your brother, your kin, your friend
His gift to us shall have no end

Last week, today, and each tomorrow
His spirit lives: a Jasper hero
