2025 Municipal Election – Get Ready to Vote
Make your voice heard in Jasper’s 2025 Municipal Election.
Advance voting takes place Wednesday, October 15, 2025, and Election Day is Monday, October 20, 2025 at the Jasper Activity Centre. Special ballots are available for those unable to vote in person.

INFORMATION FOR VOTERS
Advance Vote
An advance vote will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm in the multipurpose hall at the Jasper Activity Centre.
Election Day
Monday, October 20, 2025
10:00am to 8:00pm

Special Ballots
Are you out of town on voting days, or unable to attend in person due to physical limitations?
- Applications for special ballots will be available between September 1 and October 10, 2025. You can download the form here and submit it to info@jasper-alberta.ca.
- To receive a special ballot requests can be made in writing; by telephone; in person; or by email to info@jasper-alberta.ca before October 10
The Special Ballot sealed outer envelope must be forwarded so that it reaches the Returning Officer not later than October 17, 2025.
Voter Eligibility
You can vote if you:
- are at least 18 years old on Election Day
- are a Canadian citizen
- live in Alberta and your place of residence is in Jasper on election day (or you were displaced by the 2024 wildfire but intend to return)
Voter Identification Requirements
Registered Voters
- If you are registered to vote, you must show one piece of government-issued photo ID with your full name and photo
- Common examples: Alberta Driver’s License, Alberta Identification Card, Canadian Passport
- Any photo ID issued by a Canadian government, whether federal, provincial or local is acceptable. No proof of address is required if you already registered to vote.
Non-Registered Voters
- If you are not registered to vote, you must complete a Statement of Elector Eligibility; and
- You must provide one of the following:
- One piece of government issued photo ID showing your name, Jasper address and photo; or
- If you don't have photo ID or if your address has recently changed, you must provide one piece of identification showing your name and current address. Common examples include:
- Residential lease agreement or mortgage statement;
- Utility bill (e.g. telephone, internet, electricity, gas or water);
- Bank/credit card statement or personal cheque;
- Insurance policy or coverage card;
- Vehicle ownership, registration or insurance certificate;
- Government cheque or cheque stub;
- Income/property tax assessment notice;
- Pension Plan statement of benefits, contributions or participation;
- Statement of government benefits: e.g. Employment insurance, old-age security, social assistance, disability support, or child tax benefit;
- Correspondence issued by a school, college or university;
- Letter from a public curator, public guardian or public trustee;
- A letter or form (attestation) confirming that the person lives at the stated address. The letter can be signed by any of the following:
- authorized representative of a commercial property management company;
- authorized representative of a post-secondary institution; or
- authorized representative of a long-term care or supportive living facility.
Vouching
If a voter does not have acceptable ID with their current address, they may have another voter vouch for their address. The voter must still provide acceptable ID from the list above with their name on it.
The person vouching (the voucher) must:
- Be eligible to vote,
- Show acceptable ID,
- be listed on the permanent electors' register, and
- at the voting station, complete Form 14 Statement of Voucher
Form 14 Statement of Voucher sets out that the voucher:
- knows the person,
- knows the person resides at the address indicated on the statement, and
- has not been vouched for themselves.
A voucher may only vouch for more than one person if the people they are vouching for live in the same residence (one household maximum).
Displaced from Jasper due to the wildfire?
You are still eligible to run for elected office and vote in Jasper during the 2025 municipal election.
If you are displaced due to the 2024 wildfire and intend to return to Jasper as a resident, you will be required to sign a statement stating that:
- You were a resident of the Municipality of Jasper on July 22, 2024;
- You continue to be displaced from the Municipality of Jasper as a result of the wildfire in 2024; and
- You intend to resume residence in the Municipality of Jasper as soon as is reasonably practicable.
Municipal staff will provide the form for your signature whether you intend to run for office or cast your vote at the advance vote, during election day or vote by special ballot.
Please note that you will still be required to produce a piece of identification to receive a ballot. This is generally your drivers’ license, but it could be any piece of identification issued by a Canadian government, whether federal, provincial or local, or an agency of that government, that contains a photograph of the individual.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, September 22 at 12:00 noon.
Nominations can be submitted in person to the Returning Officer or Deputy Returning Officer by appointment. To make an appointment, please contact the Deputy Returning Officer, at info@jasper-alberta.ca or call 780-852-6508.
Nomination forms will be accepted in person, without an appointment, on Nomination Day (Monday, September 22, 2025) between the hours of 10:00am and 12:00pm (noon) at the Jasper Activity Centre.
Candidate Eligibility
To be nominated for office, a candidate must:
- Be eligible to vote in the municipal election;
- Have been a resident of the local jurisdiction for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day*;
- Not be otherwise ineligible or disqualified as per the Local Authorities Election Act.
*If you are displaced from Jasper due to the 2024 wildfire, you are still eligible to run for municipal office if:
- You were a resident of the Municipality of Jasper on July 22, 2024;
- You continue to be displaced from the Municipality of Jasper as a result of the wildfire in 2024; and
- You intend to resume residence in the Municipality of Jasper as soon as is reasonably practicable.
You will be required to sign a statement confirming the above upon filing your nomination papers.

To file their nomination, candidates must complete, sign and submit the following forms. It is the responsibility of each candidate to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements to become a candidate and follow the provisions of the Local Authorities Election Act throughout the campaign period.

Campaign Financing Rules
Candidates for mayor or councillor, or any person acting on behalf of a candidate, are responsible for ensuring they understand all campaign financial rules. Candidates, or their official agent(s), are encouraged to review Part 5.1 of the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA), which outlines all campaign finance rules, and seek their own legal advice when needed.

2025 Campaign Disclosure Statement: If you have accepted contributions or incurred expenses in 2025 you must file the required campaign disclosure forms by March 1, 2026.
