How to Present to Council:
Step 1: Schedule your presentation
To schedule your presentation, you will have to contact the Legislative Services Coordinator at eacorn@jasper-alberta.ca or 780-931-4806. Please submit your presentation request a minimum of two weeks before the meeting you wish to present at.
In your email or phone call, make sure to:
- state that you would like to present to council
- provide a brief description of your topic;
- include any written materials; and
- include your full name and contact information.
Step 2: Prepare your presentation for success
You will have 3 minutes to present plus additional time for questions from Council.
Presentation tips
- Introduce yourself and the topic: briefly describe your relationship to the topic.
- What are you asking Council to do: Describe the action you wish Council to take.
(If you are requesting funding, state the amount and purpose of funding. It is a good idea to provide your budget information and other revenue you have or are pursuing).
Why is this important?
- What is the value or benefit of this for the community?
- How long has the issue been going on?
- How does this affect you or the community?
- Do you have support from other community groups? Does this fit with Council's Strategic Priorities?
If you are asking for funding to solve a problem, Council will base their decision on whether we have the budget and staff to follow through. Think about whether your request can wait until Council is setting a budget for the following year (typically in the fall).
- Technical Assistance: You may book a projector or laptop with the Legislative Services Coordinator prior to the meeting.
