One-Year Wildfire Commemorative Week

One Year Later: Coming Together as a Community

July 22, 2025 marks one year since the wildfire that changed our community. This week of commemorative events is not a celebration, but a chance to come together — to reflect, to honour what was lost, to recognize how far we’ve come, and to support one another as we continue to heal.

Whether you choose to attend one event or many, this is a time to reconnect with neighbours, acknowledge shared experiences, and strengthen the resilience that defines Jasper.

For media inquiries, please contact: JRCCinfo@jasper-alberta.ca

Event information: Join the fun-filled Parks Day events, and while you are there, stop by the Friends of Jasper tent where there will be thank you cards for our neighbouring communities who helped us out last year & painting of hearts for hanging on Commemoration Park fence to share hope and love.

Daily while the Library is open, you may stop in and share your story or art to be part of "The Deepest Part" project.

The Deepest Part is a local initiative to collect and share experiences of getting through the wildfire complex of 2024. Everyone is welcome.

The goal is to collect stories shared in any creative expression: poems, journal entries, song lyrics, plays, drawings, paintings, sculptures. You can contribute in any format that helps tell your story.

Pick up the project booklet, the booklet has info on the project, creative prompts and a timeline to get you started. The booklets are available at the library.

This project is an ongoing project and is available all year round.

Join Gilly for a session of Somatic Healing Through Movement… Meditation with Movement.

Bookend the anniversary week by discovering peace and comfort within… The first anniversary after a tragedy is the most difficult, and giving yourself time and space to discover how to gently support release and find comfort within, is the best self-care. You will have tools to move through the week differently. Figuratively and literally… You will even climb, bike, walk, be with others differently.

Like a yoga class, but instead of watching the instructor or trying to do the poses, you close your eyes, go inside and follow  guidance for gentle movement and curiosity. There is no right or wrong way to be, there is a discovery of what is within yourself and the possibility to discover comfort.

What other people have said:  “The world is brighter.”  “ I was anxious, now I am calm.” “ I am taller.”

This is an all-levels class for all abilities.

Please bring a mat. Drop-in. Free to attend.

📅 Date: July 21, 2025
