Pop-Up Village

The Jasper Pop-Up Village is a temporary marketplace providing essential retail space for businesses that lost commercial space in the 2024 wildfire. It offers serviced lots for small modular units or seacans, enabling affected businesses to resume operations, retain staff, and continue serving the community until their permanent locations are rebuilt.

Artist's Studio

Effective April 2025 – October 2027 

The Artist Studio located within the Pop-Up Village is a temporary creative space designed to support local artists in Jasper following the 2024 Wildfire Complex. It is intended for artists who have lost studios, galleries, or works of art and require a dedicated space to continue their practice, exhibitions, and engagement with the public. 

Eligibility Criteria: 

To qualify for participation in the Artist Studio, applicants must meet all the following criteria: 

1. Displacement Due to Wildfire

Applicants must have been active, established, resident artists of Jasper before July 22, 2024, and meet at least one of the following: 

  • Displaced from a brick-and-mortar studio destroyed or damaged by the wildfire. 
  • Displaced from a gallery or display venue destroyed or damaged by the wildfire. 
  • Lost works of art in the wildfire. 

2. Licensing Requirements

  • Applicants must hold an active business license with the Municipality of Jasper. 
  • Proof of license status and operational activity as of July 22, 2024, will be required. 

3. Insurance Requirements 

Applicants must obtain a minimum of $5 million liability insurance naming the Municipality of Jasper as an additional insured. 

4. Permitted Activities 

Use of the Studio is limited to: 

  • Production, exhibition, and sale of artwork. 
  • Art classes, workshops, and demonstrations. 

All performances or activities must be suitable for a general family audience and comply with safety and municipal bylaws.

5. Duration of participation 

Artists who are approved for the program may access the Artist Studio without the need to reapply for each booking. 

From May to October, bookings are available one week at a time, with the option to extend into consecutive weeks if the following week remains unreserved by the Friday prior to the current booking’s end. From November to April, bookings may be made for a month at a time. 

Artists may continue using the Artist Studio until the earliest of the following: 

  •  Reconstruction of their original studio or gallery space;
  • October 2027, aligning with the approved duration of the Commerce Continuity Initiative (with possible extensions based on need under the Letter of Forbearance); or 
  • Securing an alternative suitable studio or gallery space elsewhere in Jasper. 

The Municipality may permit consecutive or extended bookings, subject to availability and fair access for other eligible artists. 

6. Commitment to Participation 

Participating artists must agree to: 

  • Pay a studio rental fee and security deposit as outlined in the rental agreement (Schedule A). 
  • Comply with all terms of the Artist Studio Rental Agreement, including: 
  • Safety, environmental, and bylaw compliance. 
  • Noise and nuisance restrictions. 
  • Restrictions on hazardous activities and materials. 
  • Cooperation with other Pop-Up Village participants. 
  • Maintain the Studio and surrounding area in good condition and return it to its original state upon departure.
