Displaced Jasperites

We understand how incredibly stressful it is to be away from home and facing uncertainty about the future. Navigating these challenging times can be overwhelming, and we want to share resources available to support you as you figure out your next steps.

Reception Centres

*Updated August 30

The reception centres in Calgary and Edmonton closed at 4 p.m. on August 30 (the Grande Prairie reception centre closed August 24). Jasper residents who have been staying at hotels in Calgary and Edmonton have been informed to prepare to vacate the hotels and make alternate arrangements by September 3.

We know some displaced residents still have questions about supports. We have confirmed that during the Labour Day weekend, officials from Alberta Seniors, Community and Social Services and the Canadian Red Cross will begin making contact with displaced Jasper residents who have been staying in hotels, to discuss their plans and identify any instances where there might be need for further support.

People staying in hotels should not wait for officials to make contact before making their plans, but anyone who needs information on available government or Red Cross supports can contact the Alberta Support Centre at 1-866-644-5135, or go to alberta.ca/income-support for more information.

If you are a Jasper resident in Calgary or Edmonton looking for transportation back to Jasper, Brewster’s Transportation is generously offering a one-way service for evacuees on August 31 and September 1, with priority given to Pursuit employees and remaining seats available to other Jasperites free of charge.
