Jasper Wildfire 2024

Daily Update as of 6:30 p.m. August 30

Re-Entry:

The Re-Entry Support Centre at Commemoration Park continues to operate daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including over this long weekend. Representatives from the Municipality of Jasper, Alberta Health Services, 211, and the Canadian Red Cross, will be available.

Displaced Jasperites:

The reception centres in Calgary and Edmonton closed at 4 p.m. on August 30 (the Grande Prairie reception centre closed on August 24). Jasper residents who have been staying at hotels in Calgary and Edmonton have been informed to prepare to vacate the hotels and make alternate arrangements by September 3.

We know some displaced residents still have questions about supports. We have confirmed that during the Labour Day weekend, officials from Alberta Seniors, Community and Social Services, and the Canadian Red Cross will begin making contact with displaced Jasper residents who have been staying in hotels, to discuss their plans and identify any instances where there might be need for further support.

People staying in hotels should not wait for officials to make contact before making their plans, but anyone who needs information on available government or Red Cross supports can contact the Alberta Support Centre at 1-866-644-5135, or go to alberta.ca/income-support for more information.

If you are a Jasper resident in Calgary or Edmonton looking for transportation back to Jasper, Brewster’s Transportation is generously offering a one-way service for evacuees on August 31 and September 1, with priority given to Pursuit employees and remaining seats available to other Jasperites free of charge. Please register here

Housing:

At this time, housing will only be available for essential workers as we continue to address the community's urgent needs, with the first round of housing expected by the long weekend. To learn more, click here. If you are an essential worker and have not completed a housing application, please visit here

Health & Safety:

Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) will have officers work within Jasper to assist in the rebuilding of Jasper town. OHS activities are aimed at monitoring for compliance with relevant OHS legislation with an aim to prevent injury or occupational illness to workers and responders.

In addition to OHS, public health inspectors are available. You can contact Environmental Public Health for specific requests.
