Canada Day

Canada Day in Jasper is an opportunity to gather as a community, celebrate together, and reflect on the stories, cultures, histories, and relationships that shape this place.

As we continue rebuilding and reconnecting following the 2024 wildfire, Canada Day 2026 aims to:

  • Create welcoming spaces for residents and visitors
  • Celebrate community spirit
  • Honour Indigenous cultures, histories, and ongoing presence
  • Support local artists, businesses, and organizations
  • Encourage inclusion, belonging, and accessibility
  • Foster respectful community connection

This event is intended to reflect both celebration and reflection: honouring the truth of Canada’s history while imagining a stronger future together.

The 2026 Canada Day Planning Committee is lead by the Municipality of Jasper in collaboration with individual residents and representatives from Parks Canada, the Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives as well as Indigenous partner nations.

You can contact the committee or apply to join the committee by emailing: canadaday@jasper-alberta.ca

Guiding Principles

1 - Community First: Canada Day is for everyone. We aim to create spaces where people feel welcomed, safe, respected, and included.

2 - Truth and Reconciliation: We recognize that Canada Day can hold different meanings for different people. We are committed to:

  • Creating space for Indigenous voices and leadership
  • Respectfully incorporating Indigenous culture and protocol
  • Learning from Indigenous residents and partner nations
  • Approaching the day with honesty, humility, and care

3 - Respectful Participation: All participants, volunteers, performers, vendors, and attendees are expected to contribute to a respectful, family-friendly environment.

4 - Accessibility and Inclusion: We aim to reduce barriers to participation wherever possible and welcome people of all ages, abilities, identities, and backgrounds.

5 - Safety and Wellbeing: Physical and emotional safety are priorities.

This Canada Day, we invite local businesses, organizations, and residents to help fill Jasper with colour, connection, and community spirit.

Alongside traditional red and white decorations, we encourage the community to include orange hearts and orange elements as a symbol of our shared commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.

Whether it’s a decorated storefront, window display, patio, office, or community space, every contribution helps create a welcoming and meaningful celebration throughout the community.

Together, we can create a Canada Day that reflects both celebration and reflection — honouring where we’ve come from, acknowledging the truths of our shared history, and imagining a stronger future together.

This year’s celebration will bring residents and visitors together through music, cultural demonstrations, family activities, local vendors, entertainment, and opportunities for reflection, connection, and celebration. Truth and Reconciliation will be thoughtfully woven throughout the day by creating space for Indigenous voices, culture, learning, and community connection.

As we are still in the planning stages, the schedule of events below is tentative and subject to change:

  • 8:30 AM - 11:00 AM - Pancake Breakfast - Commemoration Park - 301 Pyramid Lake Road
  • 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM - Zumba in The Park - Commemoration Park - 301 Pyramid Lake Road
  • 11:00 AM - Flag Raising - Commemoration Park - 301 Pyramid Lake Road
  • 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM - Canada Day Parade - Along Patricia Street and Connaught Drive
  • 3:00 PM - 10:00 PM - Entertainment in The Park - Commemoration Park - 301 Pyramid Lake Road

The Canada Day Parade is a long-standing Jasper tradition that brings our community together to celebrate connection, creativity, culture, and community spirit.

We invite local organizations, businesses, schools, performers, community groups, families, and residents to take part in this year’s parade. Whether you are creating a float, walking with your group, sharing music, culture, or community pride, we welcome parade entries that help create a fun, respectful, and family-friendly experience for everyone.

As part of this year’s celebration, the Municipality of Jasper and the Canada Day Planning Committee are working to weave Truth and Reconciliation throughout the day by creating space for Indigenous voices, cultures, and community connection.

We encourage parade entries that reflect kindness, inclusion, creativity, and the spirit of coming together as a community.

Non-motorized entries that align with the Municipality of Jasper's priority around environmental stewardship are encouraged. Instead of a traditional flatbed float, consider a creative, people-powered entry - decorated bicycles, walking performances, mascots, music or dance groups, push carts, human-powered float displays, or other fun ideas!
