The Municipality of Jasper is moving forward with plans to expand childcare and community space at the Jasper Activity Centre, helping meet the growing needs of local families while creating new opportunities for recreation, programming, and community connection.
The project includes the expansion of Wildflowers Childcare, creating 22 new full-time childcare spaces, as well as the addition of a new second-floor community space that will support the gymnastics facility and provide flexible gathering space for community groups and organizations.
This investment reflects priorities identified through the Jasper Community Childcare Strategy (2023–2027) and supports the Municipality's commitment to building a healthy, resilient, and family-friendly community.
Funding & Partnerships
The Wildflowers Childcare & Community Space Expansion project is being funded through contributions from Pursuit, the Municipality of Jasper through the approved 2026 Capital Budget, and additional external funding support.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the Jasper community, Pursuit has contributed $400,000 toward the Wildflowers Childcare & Community Space Expansion through the Jasper Tourism Recovery and Prosperity Fund.
"Pursuit has been a proud part of the Jasper community for many years. Our team members live here, raise their families here, and are deeply committed to seeing this place thrive. Like many others in Jasper, some of those families wait years for a daycare spot. This $400,000 contribution to the Wildflowers Daycare expansion is part of Pursuit’s $3 million commitment through the Jasper Tourism Recovery and Prosperity Fund, and part of our ongoing investment in a community we are privileged to call home. It is one way we are living our Promise to Place, ensuring Jasper remains a place where people don’t just visit, but truly belong." - Jordan Bell, Vice President, Operations, Canada Operations, Pursuit
Wildflowers Childcare Expansion
Access to childcare continues to be one of the most significant challenges facing families in Jasper. The need for additional childcare spaces was identified through extensive community engagement completed as part of the Jasper Community Childcare Strategy, which highlighted the impacts that limited childcare availability has on families, employers, workforce participation, and long-term community sustainability.
To help address this need, the Municipality will expand Wildflowers Childcare to create 22 new full-time childcare spaces for local families.
Wildflowers Childcare provides inclusive, play-based early learning opportunities that support children's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. The program focuses on creating a safe and welcoming environment where children learn through exploration, guided discovery, and hands-on experiences. Educators work closely with families to support each child's unique strengths and needs while fostering belonging, diversity, and accessibility.
The expansion will increase childcare capacity while maintaining the high-quality programming, staffing standards, and age-appropriate learning environments that families currently rely on.
By creating additional childcare spaces, the project will help improve access to early learning opportunities, support workforce retention and participation, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the Jasper community.
Community Space Expansion
In addition to expanding childcare, the project will create a new second-floor community space within the Jasper Activity Centre.
The new space will include a viewing area overlooking the gymnastics facility, providing improved spectator seating and creating opportunities for the local gymnastics club to host competitions, performances, and special events.
The second-floor addition will also feature a flexible, bookable meeting and gathering space that can be used by community groups, organizations, and programs. This multi-purpose area will help address the growing need for accessible community meeting space while supporting increased collaboration, programming, and community engagement.
Together, these improvements will enhance the Jasper Activity Centre as a hub for recreation, learning, and community connection, creating a more functional and welcoming space for residents of all ages.
